The country’s mobile density has reached 110.43 per cent and the use of mobile phones has increased by 22 per cent within two years, according to a statement by Ministry of Transport and Communication.
Mobile use has increased from 86.20 per cent in March 2016 to 110.43 per cent in 2018.
More than 50 pc of populations have no mobile phones though about 110 in 100 people can use mobile phones. A person has two or three mobiles. There are regions which have no access to communications. According to data estimates, about half of the total population has mobile phones.
Myanmar had been on the list of top five countries in 2014, 2015 and 2016 consecutively after foreign telecom operators namely, Ooredoo and Telenor entered the local telecom market.
MPT’s mobile phone coverage is 90.01 per cent, Telenor, 89.6 per cent and Ooreedoo, 90.5 per cent.
Telecom operators are working to extend 4G networks. For the convenience of people in rural areas and those who have low-cost handsets, Ooredoo which provides 3G and 4G networks only, offers 2G services this year.
Fiber cable network has increased from 23,400 kilometers in 2015-2016 to 42,200 kilometers.
